Our New Deck!

Saturday we got started early because we heard Sunday's weather forecast included a dramatic drop in temperature, sleet and snow. (Not the kind of weather we were looking for at the end of October.) There was no way Eric was going to get me out in the snow and sleet to help him finish the decking so we got ourselves up bright and early, put on our hats and warm clothes, and started on the project.

We spent all day attaching the skirting and laying down the decking. I am sure that it was quite a funny sight to see a lady, 8-months pregnant, crawling across the deck on hands and knees carefully placing and holding each board at the proper spacing so that her husband could affix them to the frame. But we did it. We were able to cut, lay out and attach all of the decking in one day... and with enough time to gaze happily at our new deck while enjoying a "Diet Coke" and a sparkling juice.

No, the project is not quite finished yet. We still have a few items left, including: replacing a piece of siding, caulking around the door frame, painting on a sealant, and finishing the landscaping. We have enjoyed ourselves as we have walked up our new stairs and across the threshold of our front door. It's been a long time (about a month) since we were able to enter our house through our front door.

I can't wait until this project is completely finished, but we're so close now I'm sure we'll make it before the snow accumulates and before our new baby arrives.
