Progress on the new deck

Saturday was devoted to making progress on the new front deck. While we probably won't be able to enjoy the fruits of our labor this fall, we are looking forward finishing the project so that all we have to do next spring is sit back, relax and enjoy the finished product.

So far, the yard is all re-graded and re-seeded. The new grass has begun to grow. The sidewalks in the front and on the side of the house have been poured. And... we have completed three fifths of the trench digging and concrete pier setting for the deck.

What's left you ask? Well...

We need to finish digging two more trenches, frame and install the deck and build both sets of permanent steps into the house. When we think about it, we find ourselves a bit overwhelmed. But we have noticed that taking it one step at a time, one weekend at a time have been very helpful in keeping us productive. At the end of each weekend we review our progress and feel quite impressed that we have made it this far.

Bit by bit, we'll keep moving forward and hopefully, we'll finish before the ground freezes, the snow falls, or the baby decides he's ready to meet the outside world.
