4 Days To Go

We have officially started the countdown on the kitchen project. On Thursday, the cabinet guy came back and installed the new pantry cabinet. (This time the manufacturer did send the correct stain color.) The cabinet looks beautiful. And of course, I went to work right away on Thursday night filling it up with all of our displaced canned goods and boxes or pasta. We have now reclaimed one half of our dining room table. Wahoo! Next week we'll be able to have dinner at the dining table again, instead of hunched over the coffee table.

So we have four days to go. The countertop guys come at 8 AM on Monday. The plumber will arrive in the afternoon on Tuesday and by Tuesday night, we'll have a kitchen. We're practically jumping out of our seats with joy as we think about how close we're getting to completing the project. This weekend we'll put up the last of the baseboard and crown moulding. I'll touch up the plaster on the walls where it has been chipped and we'll finish painting the area of the ceiling where we chipped off all of the blistering paint.

Last but not least will be to tile the backsplash, which I've been chomping at the bit to start but Eric has ever so kindly prevented me from doing so until we have our counters finished. He's right. I don't like to admit it, but we do have to wait for the counters. I'm just to the point where I want it all done and I want it done right now.

This is the tile we have chosen for the backsplash.

They're half inch tiles of different color stone with somewhat of a texture. This should help us hide some of the unevenness in the walls we will be covering.

Well, more to come soon. I'm sure you're all just as excited as we are for this project to be complete. If nothing else, the completion of this project will force me to move on to writing about other activities in our lives, activities that are probably more interesting than the kitchen.
